About New Song Community Church
Our History
New Song Community Church (NSCC) has a rich Columbus history. Many of the founding members went to
college together at Ohio State University and found themselves as young working singles and couples living on
the far east side and fellowshipping in community-based Bible studies. It is those beginning roots of being a
close, young group of committed, Christ followers that has so well anchored and given our church this sense of
close fellowship, compassion and perpetual youthfulness.

Our Beliefs & Affiliations
New Song is in fellowship with Great Commission Churches and our Core Values and Statement of Faith are
identical. Click the links to learn more.

Our Pastors
New Song identifies pastors, elders and deacons from within the church through the guidelines found in the New
Testament of the Bible, primarily 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Additional training and ongoing coaching is provided
through Great Commission resources and conferences. Our pastors work as a team of equals. Currently our
pastors are:

Chris Phillips, Pastor
Chris and Marie helped start the church in 1988. To Chris
and his family, New Song is definitely home in every way. He is on
staff at the church and spends most of his days overseeing the
everyday functions of the church, ministries and small groups.
When he is not helping, or hanging around church people he is
passing out church invites at the local coffee shops. Chris is known for
his enthusiasm, his friendly spirit and his passion for the next
generation.

John Hopler, Pastor
John and Sandy have been Pataskala residents since 1988.
John has over 25 years of pastoral and leadership development
experience locally and nationally. John is the National Director for
Great Commission Churches (www.gccweb.org) and is on full time staff
with GCC. His work at New Song is voluntary and his responsibilities
include teaching, leadership development, and overseeing the
GCLI (Great Commission Leadership Institute). His pastoral style is
wise, warm, and fatherly.

Mark Harger, Pastor
Mark and Linda have lived in the community for many
years, participating actively in 4-H. In January 2005 Mark
was ordained as a pastor at New Song. Mark is a fulltime RN,
working at multiple hospitals in the area. His responsibilities at
New Song include teaching, coaching small groups, and leading the
parents' ministry and Celebrate Recovery. Mark has a genuine
love for God, a practical knowledge of the Bible, and a caring
heart for people.
